Hanes has significant long-term goals for reducing energy use, water use and carbon emissions, and is a leader in using renewable energy, such as biomass, hydroelectric and geothermal power, to avoid the use of nonrenewable and emission-laden oil-based energy. Since setting its long-term goals in 2007, Hanes’ achievements include:
- A 21 percent reduction in energy use per pound of production.
- A 27 percent reduction in water use per pound of production.
- A 16 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per pound of production.
- Using renewable energy sources for 30 percent of its total worldwide energy use.
“Hanes has earned EPA’s highest Energy Star award – the 2014 Partner of
the Year Sustained Excellence Award – because of its unwavering
commitment to helping consumers become increasingly more energy
efficient,” said EPA Deputy Administrator
